How we use your donations

We are a volunteer based charity (SC024885) who give home support, friendship and practical help to families who have at least one child under 5 years of age.

  •  Support a local family going through difficult times.
  • Train a volunteer to provide vital support an isolated family.
  • Provide additional training for volunteers.

Home-Start relies on the generosity of people like you to continue supporting parents and children.

Everyone needs a helping hand at some point in their lives – your donation today can make a real difference in a child’s future.

£5 – can provide a pack of story books for a family.
£15 – provides volunteer with a pack of useful crafts and activities with children they support to help them have fun and develop their creative skills.

The emotional, physical, and psychological impact of trauma, loss, hardship, and neglect on children is profound, its effects can last a lifetime.

The need for our support has never been greater.

Across Scotland:

  • 1 in 4 children are growing up in poverty.
  • Nearly 15,000 children are currently in state care or are ‘looked after’.
  • Referrals to children and young people’s mental health services have risen by more than 22% in the past five years, now exceeding 33,000 each year.
  • Almost 60,000 incidents of domestic abuse were recorded last year – with many more likely going unreported – and countless children directly affected.

In Caithness, the challenges are made even more difficult by rural deprivation and isolation. Families often face limited access to essential services, higher living costs, and fewer opportunities for support. For many parents, this means struggling alone – and for many children, growing up without the stability and care they need to thrive.
